SDN architectures have been developed to improve the routing and networking performance of broadband networks by separating simple controls from data. This basic SDN concept is compatible with WSN networks; However, common SDN implementations for wired networks do not lend themselves directly to distributed mesh networks. SDN promises to improve the lifespan and performance of WSN networks. However, the SDN architecture modifies the WSN network communication schemes, allowing new types of attacks and requiring a new approach to securing the WSN network. Abstract

In this article, we present Black SDN, a Software Defined Networking (SDN) architecture for networking and secure communications in wireless sensor networks (WSN). SDN architectures have been developed to improve the routing and networking performance of broadband networks by separating simple controls from data.
