Abstract

Incandescent Limbo recounts White’s years in Paris after his break with the British scene in the sixties and his move to the larger complex of the Continent. Many a writer in the modern era made Paris a focal point of his activity, but probably no one got more out of it than Kenneth White, familiar as he was with French langage and culture right from the start. While exploring a labyrinthine underworld, in all its aspects, the book is fundamentally a move from identity to a field of energy, tracing the birth of this multi-facetted writer as an intellectual nomad.
