Abstract
The formation of boundary lubricating films on the surface of steel during friction in the presence of substances forming
complex compounds with iron — dipyridyl, o-phenanthroline, 8-hydroxyquinoline, and ethylenediaminetetraacetic
acid, is considered. Boundary layers formed in the presence of complexones increase the antifriction properties of the
lubricant at low loads. It has been established that surface films are formed predominantly from base oil molecules.
