Abstract
This paper introduces a new computer routine aiming to facilitate the generation of frequency-dependent parameters for wide-band overhead transmission line models. The routine is developed with C++ programming language and Qt, a cross-platform Graphical User Interface library. Compared to the Line Constants program available in PSCAD/EMTDC, ATP/EMTP and EMTP-RV, the new routine uses Sunde’s improvement on Carson’s earth-return formula, which elevates data consistency at very high frequencies. It incorporates automatic ground wire and bundle conductor reduction functionalities to eliminate unnecessary data. The generated parameters can be exported to MATLAB for further data processing. With Qt, the routine is able to display visualized typical plots of per unit length impedance etc., with adequate flexibility for user interactions. A case study shows close match of generated data compared to those by EMTP-RV.
