Abstract

There has been a decrease in area of arable land,total sown area and area of arable land per capita since the implementation of grain for green project in Ansai County. However, the grain yield per unit area and the total grain output have tended to increase owing to favorable measures taken, such as adjustment of planting structure, increase of investment and improvement of technologies. No great changes have occurred to the food per capita, which remains to be above 350 kg (namely the subsistence level), and the area of arable land per capital is still higher than the area of cultivated land per capita in China. Thus, no negative impacts have been imposed upon food security of Ansai County by the grain for green project.
