It is a tedious work to tune up these PI gains optimally due to the non-linearity and the high complexity of the system. Out of the different methods for solving optimal control problems (whether direct or indirect), Evolutionary algorithm is one. In this paper, concurrently control of reactive power and active power is analyzed by an recently reported metaheuristics technique known as Lightning Search Algorithm, to design the optimal P-Q controllers. The control algorithms are tested with distribution system with presence of fault and without fault. The results shows that the proposed algorithm is efficient to find the optimal parameters of the controllers.
