Characterization of Hybrid LED Panels

Abstract

LED panels comprising white phosphor LEDs and narrow band red LEDs was built to study the advantages and limitations of hybrid LED systems. The white and red channels were controlled independently enabling continuous spectral tuning of the panel. The electrical and photometric parameters were measured as a function of driving current of red and white LED arrays. The measurement data indicate that the color rendering metrics of the panel reach a maximum as the ratio of the red emission increases. In our work trade-offs between luminous efficacy and color quality is discussed.
