Abstract

Manufacturing industries having EOT cranes at various workplaces throws challenge for crane operators every day for safe operation in complex and hazardous work envelope. Operators' mistake due to ignorance or improper training sometimes lead to devastating situation like loss of human life, equipment and property damage. The current study proposed a systematic investigation into the human errors involved in crane operation and mitigation approach. Error identification and prioritization are done using Hierarchical task analysis (HTA), Systematic Human Error Reduction and Prediction Approach (SHERPA) and Fuzzy FMEA methods. Virtual reality based training is suggested for the crane operators to be competent enough for safe operation in identified hazardous situations.
