Abstract

In this study, transmission line reliability levels are defined using the simplified risk assessment method developed in the "Cascading Failure Risk Assessment" (CASE) project. The CASE project constituted an investigation into the nature of the extreme loads that occur in cascading failures and the corresponding line response. The CASE investigation focused on the effects of a triggering event on a transmission line's integrity rather than the cause for the initial failure.
