Abstract
An excitation system improving brushless generator performance in a transient state is proposed. Especially, the arrangement is capable of lowering the excitation field current faster than a standard single-quadrant topology. The proposed arrangement is simulated and evaluated with an experimental test setup. The system performance is measured in a steady state operation and with faster load transients. The results indicate that a generator excessive voltage can be effectively limited compared to a case applying standard single-quadrant topology.
