Abstract

Squirrel Cage Induction Motor (SCIM) is the most impotent tool for energy conversion and industry applications, with increased utilities due to power electronic drive system introduction. Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) gives a superior idea about the variation in specific frequency band all through the bearing fault(s), so does the Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT). But they differ in principle of decomposition. Both of them are used for Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) as they provide Multi Resolution Analysis (MRA). The variation in the energy of healthy and faulty conditions gives us a fair idea relating to fault detection. MATLAB based analysis has been used to developed a “Base-Algorithm” so that it can be processed on by any non-programming personal too for further implementations in the fields like condition monitoring of SCIM in case of severe faults, provided the studies are being held on Steady State Currents. Comparative study of DWT and WPT provides a deep insight & shows suitability of each in early detection of various faults alongside with their advantages and limitations individually.
