Who is expected to enter tertiary education?

Education at a Glance 2018: OECD Indicators © OECD 2018 194 WHO IS EXPECTED TO ENTER TERTIARY EDUCATION? • On average, the share of female new entrants into doctoral programmes has increased by 2.5 percentage points between 2005 and 2016, and women now represent almost half of the doctoral new entrants across OECD. • In 24 of the 31 countries with available data, the median age of entry into tertiary education is between 18 and 20 years old. • In almost all OECD countries, first-time entry rates to tertiary education below age 25 are higher for women than for men.
