Abstract

RFID technology is one of the enablers and key component in the broader Internet of Things (IoT) eco-system. However, power consumption is a major constraint in IoT devices and readers and apparently is a bottleneck in the deployment of such systems in IoT applications. A handshaking algorithm that reduces the power consumption of chipless RFID reader in noninterrogating scenarios is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm is able to reduce the power consumption of the chipless RFID system by 70%.
