Abstract

This paper deals with modern Software Defined Radio (SDR) equipment, namely the Ettus USRP (Universal Software Radio Peripheral) type B210, which is controlled through an open-source Linux application, the Open-LTE, while attempting to perform 4G communications. The completed LTE sessions are then analyzed in depth in order to demonstrate that a SDR session is no different than a mobile operator’s LTE call, and to show that SDRs can act as completely functional eNodeB elements in small private mobile networks as long as they remain compliant with the radio spectrum law boundaries.
