Abstract
The diffusion of new and complex services, such as multiparty and multimedia services, drives the evolution of signalling systems. One of the main issues discussed in the standardisation bodies is the interworking and the integration of the IN functionalities in the B-ISDN. This is the subject of the ACTS European project named INSIGNIA in which the work presented has been done. One of the most challenging services for the IN is the video conference. Its realisation implies a huge load on the network entities. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the performance of a signalling system implementing this service. In particular, two different service setup strategies are compared. In the first one, the service logic starts a new establishment only after the report on the success of the setup of each bearer; in the second one, the commands to establish all the bearer connections are simultaneously issued by the service logic.
