Analysis on the Status Quo and Strategies of Chinese for Children in Hong Kong Based on Online Teaching

Abstract

With the rise of China's international status and the popularity of the Chinese language boom, more and more people are choosing to learn Chinese as a second language, while more and more learners from abroad, such as children from Hong Kong and Macau, are learning Mandarin as a key language. With advances in technology and technological innovations, the way people learn languages has changed: from the traditional large offline physical classroom to online online classes. With the impact of the new coronary epidemic, it has become difficult for traditional teaching models to work properly offline, so more and more learners are choosing to learn Chinese in online classes. Because they are not restricted by time and place, families who are able to do so choose to enrol their children in online Chinese (Mandarin) classes to enhance their children's language skills and cultural awareness. In this paper, we analyse the characteristics of Hong Kong children and the main problems faced by children teaching Chinese in Hong Kong to show the current situation of online Chinese learning in Hong Kong and provide relevant strategies for those who are engaged in related professions.
