Thus, detecting the aging of the insulation materials by reliable methods is of great significance in reducing insulation failures. According to the Beer-Lambert law and considering the influence of nonlinear factors, the relationship between the absorption spectrum of high temperature vulcanized silicone rubber (HTVSR) in terahertz band and the contents of its main ingredients (polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), alumina trihydrate (ATH), and silica) is modeled with the last-square support-vector-machine (LS-SVM) regression method. Then, the aging of HTVSR can be evaluated based on the contents of the main ingredients. Experimental results of both artificial thermal oxygen aging samples and actual insulator samples showed that the ATH content of HTVSR decreases significantly with aging.
