Abstract

The suitability of sting mounting for submarine resistance experiments was investigate at two scale ratios. The impact of geometry modifications and the sting are isolated. It was found that the flow around the sting has a significant impact upstream on the model, resulting in an artificially low resistance measurement. The DARPA SUBOFF hull form was used for these experiments.
