Abstract
A new drive system of a DC permanent magnet brushless motor is developed. The developed drive system has a unique configuration which produces smooth three-phase currents by a simple PWM operation of only low-side power amplifiers, thereby reducing power consumption and motor vibration simultaneously. The developed drive system has many advantages; (1) low power consumption (e.g. it consumes only 40% of the power of a conventional linear drive system); (2) small vibration (e.g. the vibration level of it is made less by 12 dB than that of a conventional 120/spl deg/ PWM drive system); and (3) simple configuration. The paper describes the configuration and the experimental results of the developed drive system, which verify the above advantages.
