Abstract

Estimating the disturbance potential of an overhead transmission line (OHL) on radio services in the context of HVDC transmission using voltage source converter (VSC) is a crucial part in the process of electromagnetic compatibility compliance evaluation. Although the multilevel VSC technology is regarded as the solution for future direct current (DC) grids, a model to estimate the disturbance potential of such a system is still missing in international standards. This paper presents a versatile and transparent approach to quantify the disturbance potential by describing the relevant parameters as statistical quantities derived from available information on the basis of CISPR 16-4-4. In the end, the presented procedure is applied on an exemplary use case.
