Abstract
Fossil fuels burning is one of the main techniques utilized in order to generate electricity in large scale power plants. However, in the last decades, due to growing concern related to the impact of toxic gases, solid particles and greenhouse gases associated with fossil fuels burning on the environment, significant measures were considered in order to reduce these negative consequences. Along these measures, the development of the renewable energies was considered a key factor, and consequently was encouraged through several political decisions. Romania, as a European Union's member had to implement the established directives and, consequently, the renewable energy sector known a rapid evolution in the past eight years. In this paper an analysis is conducted in order to evaluate the impact of the renewable energy sector development on the CO2 emissions levels in Romania.
