Abstract

Power system1 state estimation plays an important role in monitoring transmission systems. With the emergence of smart grid concept, it will be necessary to extend state estimation function to distribution level to ensure the efficient integration of distributed energy resources. Reducing program response time is one of the on-going challenges that electrical researchers are facing to circumvent computational burden, especially since the DC approximation and fast decoupled formulation are no more viable in distribution systems. This paper evaluates the possibilities offered by two variants of the basic Weighted Least Squares Algorithm to reduce computation time.
