Abstract
This work presents a characterization of a new monopole circular microstrip patch antenna with a conducting patch in the circular ring form for use in UWB systems. The influence of inserting both a rectangular slit in the ground plane and a parasitic element close to the circular conducting patch of the structure is investigated in order to improve the antenna impedance matching, for UWB applications. Ansoft HFSS® software is the simulation tool used to obtain numerical results for the return loss frequency behavior of the considered antenna. These results are compared to the measured ones obtained using a network analyzer.
