Abstract
Over the last decade, indoor localization has been gaining increasing popularity in the research community. Since GPS offers high accuracy within the outdoor environment only, the vast proliferation of IoT-enabled devices within indoor environments can serve as an alternative to achieve GPS grade of accuracy for indoor positioning. IoT-enabled devices have already been shown to assist in forming several indoor positioning algorithms via several techniques. The centroid algorithm (CL) could be considered as one of the most popularly used algorithms for indoor positioning. In this paper, we propose a perpendicular distance-based approach (PD) that relies on the received signal strength indicator (RSSI). The proposed algorithm is theoretically analyzed. The RSSI-PD algorithm is simulated and its accuracy is evaluated in comparison with the developed versions of CL such as Weighted Centroid Localization Algorithm (WCL) and Weighted-Compensated Weighted Centroid Localization Algorithm (WC-WCL).
