Abstract
This contribution analyses national measures adopted by EU Member States and discusses in particular the background and current state of the European Commission’s proposal for a directive on improving the gender balance among non-executive directors of listed companies. It concludes that the adoption of this proposal is neither likely, nor necessary or even advisable. Also, this contribution presents a recent statistical study for Romania regarding women’s presence on boards of listed companies.
