Due to the accomplishments of postcolonial studies, the account of colonialism and postcolonialism in history textbooks has become a worthSwitzerland, the country’s self-understanding as a neutral nation untouched by the colonial expansion of European powers makes a closer look even more intriguing. Based on the examination auf 14 Swiss history textbooks, this essay states a widely absence of the acknowledgement of colonialism as a cultural phenomenon as well as the involvement of Swiss actors in colonial structures and events.
