Abstract
The paper presents an overview of the cost-effective reliability improvement methods in power systems with renewables. The rapid development of Microgrids as part of the general power supply systems states the problem of choosing the optimal technologies for its composition. The cost-based approach is most efficient for Microgrids and distribution networks with distributed generation and energy stirage systems. The cost function for the Microgrid system depends on the mode of its operation. Microgrid buys electricity in the general network or sells the surplus to get income. To address the reliability issue in systems with distributed generation sources the financial mechanism is proposed. This mechanism allows to address the reliability issue of the examined energy systems in the stage of their design but also during the operation.
