Abstract

This paper presents a dual-polarized leaky-wave antenna (LWA) for full-duplex (FD) communication applications. The design is based on slots fed by substrate integrated waveguides (SIWs) with differential feeding. This SIW feeding and slot arrangement, which realizes two orthogonal and linear polarizations in the far field, is then used to excite leaky-wave (LW) fields on a superstrate constituted by a printed partially reflective surface (PRS). The LWA provides -10 dB impedance matching from 24 to 28 GHz (more than 15%), with isolation levels greater than 50 dB and with realized gains of 16 dBi. The proposed LWA is also compact, low profile, wideband, and offers a convenient feeding approach making the design useful for FD communications, dual-polarization, and 5G systems.
