Abstract

The increase in Smart Things with video and audio features and multimedia traffic is expected to change the Internet of Things (IoT) architecture. Multimedia applications need high bandwidth and high CPU. WebRTC technology offers opportunities in this regard. In this study, the usability of WebRTC technology for multimedia applications on resource-constrained IoT devices is investigated. In this way, a benchmarking study is conducted to determine the requirements of IoT devices with audio and video capabilities. In the tests performed, the video quality and costs are investigated in low CPU and low bandwidth situations.
