Abstract

A gain enhancement technique of photo-conductive THz antenna (PCA) by optimal design of a GaAs conical horn and Si lens is proposed in this paper. Optimal choice of the flaring of the horn, length of the feeding circular waveguidesection and diameter of the aperture and hence Si-lens, dramatically increases the gain of the antenna. Proposed horn and Si-lens augmented antenna provides a maximum realized gain of 18.5 dBi along the axis of the horn. Proposed gain enhancement technique can be successfully used on various commercial photoconductive based THz antennas.
