Abstract
A low-profile microstrip patch antenna with enhanced gain and bandwidth is proposed in this paper for the wireless energy transmission system at 5.8 GHz. To improve the gain of a patch, a parasitic ring and a modified multi-layer substrate structure are introduced. As a result, the proposed patch antenna can obtain an enhanced gain and wider impedance bandwidth (IBW) simultaneously. The antenna design is simulated and obtained through a high frequency structure simulator ANSYS HFSS®. According to the simulated results, the proposed antenna can realize an enhanced gain of 9.33 dB at 5.8 GHz, which is 2.31 dB higher than that of an ordinary patch antenna. In addition, the IBW of the patch antenna has been expanded from 1.63% to 4.94%, which is increased by more than twice as much as before. Finally, the proposed antenna design with a good performance is realized in an overall dimensions of 60 mm × 60 mm × 1.524 mm, whose electrical size is 1.16λ0 × 1.161λ0 × 0.03λ0 (λ0is the free-space wavelength at the freuqency fo = 5.8 GHz).
