Abstract

Introduction : Incision is a common practice in dentistry. The standard treatment for incisional wounds is suturing. Suturing can hold injured tissue well but may be uncomfortable for some patients. One alternative method of suturing is tissue glue. A common material used for tissue glue is 2 octyl-cyanoacrylate. The use of this material is quite comfortable but has the risk of causing inflammation as in suturing. Wound healing sheet (WHS) tissue glue based on Aloe vera extract and chicken egg albumin is expected to be an alternative method for healing gingival incisions. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of WHS in healing gingival incision wounds. Methods : A total of 24 male rats (Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain) with incised gingiva were divided into 4 groups, K1 (negative control without treatment), K2 (positive control with suturing treatment), K3 (WHS concentration of 50%), and K4 (WHS concentration of 100%). The treatment was carried out for 7 days. The data were analyzed using One Way ANOVA and followed by Post Hoc LSD. Results : The percentage values of wound healing from the highest to the lowest were K4, K3, K1, and K2. The values for the number of fibroblasts from the highest to the lowest were K4, K3, K2, and K1. The results of the p-value (p < 0.05) showed that there was a significant difference between the sample groups in the two data. Conclusion : Wound healing sheet made from Aloe vera leaf extract and chicken egg albumin is effective for healing gingival incision wounds.
