This paper is a study and validation of capabilities of FACTS device, namely, STATCOM, through modelling and Simulation using Matlab/Simulink Platform. The STATCOM, is a device connected in transmission line to compensate reactive power; made of a coupled transformer and a solid-state VSI. At the point of connection, capacitive reactance or inductive reactance is emulated since the sinusoidal current is injected of varying magnitude which is almost in quadrature with the line voltage. This paper shows the functioning of the STATCOM using simulink platform verified simulation.
