Technology assessment: Interactive digital TV applied to telehealth

Abstract

Promote health universally is a major challenge for society. For this reason, the World Health Organization (WHO) set targets related to Primary Health Care (PHC), emphasizing the importance of the issue for the world. Use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is essential for achieving the goals. Meet people in remote locations is one such current concerns. Telehealth is the use of ICTs to address this concern. But the variety of technologies and concepts, makes it difficult to choose the best solutions. Therefore, evaluation of technology is an important factor, so you can make decisions without major problems in the future. This paper aims to evaluate the use of Interactive Digital TV as ICT support for Telehealth based on the execution of the steps of an assessment methodology. Describing the relationship of technology with the principles of Primary Health Care (PHC), maturity and relevance, their benefits, their difficulties and political influences on their choice and development. Summing up the results in a SWOT matrix (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats).
