Grief and the American Indian

Abstract

Knowledge of cultural practices pertaining to grief and bereavement of American Indians can aid caregivers of any culture. Practices that are successful for American Indians might apply to other groups, leading to better services and care for those of other cultures who are grieving. This article seeks to outline the differences in how American Indians cope with grief in order to provide insight for those who care for individuals from a culture different from one's own.
