Abstract
Much higher area data throughput is required in future cellular networks, since the global demand for wireless data traffic is continuously growing. This goal can be achieved without the need for more bandwidth or additional base stations if the spectral efficiency is improved. This paper explains why the Massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) communication technology, where multi-antenna base stations spatially multiplex a multitude of user terminals over the entire bandwidth, is well-suited for this purpose.
