To support higher user density, high user mobility, and enhanced network capacity, extensive frequency reuse in microcellular systems becomes necessary. Small cell radii result in more frequent handovers which in general overload other vital functions of the network control. This paper presents a new fuzzy logic based handover algorithm which results in sharp reduction in the number of handovers from those when a conventional algorithm is used.
