Abstract
This paper presents a review on the impact of distributed generation (DG) on fault detection and fault localization in power distribution system. The penetration of DG in distribution system has significant impact on protection issues, as the load flow of the network changes and also the distribution system remains no longer radial. The bi-directional flow of fault current increases the complexity of protection coordination as the range of fault current changes and may cause protective device to become blind in case of over current and short circuit with the integration of DG. The impact of DG on fault detection, fault clearance and minimizing the outage time demands the need for changes in fault detection and localization methods. A lot of research is undergoing in this prospect for the improvement in various methods widely used for fault detection and localization.
