The paper analyzes the Russian pedagogical journalism phenomenon of the late XIX – early XX centuries. Pedagogical journals were a kind of mirror of the social and pedagogical life, a promoter of new ideas and approaches. The progressive line in the pedagogical journalism development during this period was determined by several non-official periodicals, including pedagogical journals for a wide teaching audience, VestnikVospitanya and Russkaya Shkola, published from 1890 to 1917. Based on the study of sources and content analysis of the contents of these periodicals, a characteristic of their publica-tion activity is given, features of the subject matter in different years and leading authors are highlighted.
