Türkiye’de Enflasyonun Gelir Eşitsizliğine Etkisinin Mikro Düzeyde Analizi

Abstract

In this study, the impact of inflation on income inequality in Turkey in 2005-18 period has been examined using two micro data sets obtained from the Household Budget Survey and Income and Living Conditions Survey applied by the Turkish Statistical Institute. The annual inflation rates faced by the households according to their income levels were determined by considering the distribution of the expenditures of households with different income levels on main expenditure groups. The real incomes of the households are specified by using these rates. It has been determined that the inequality in real income distribution, both according to household disposable income and equivalised household disposable income, is higher than the inequality announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute. It was concluded that inflation had a significant effect on the deterioration of income distribution in the period of 2005-18 and prevented the closing of the income gap between high and low income household groups.
