Provincial Youth in Modern Russia and the Protest Political Agenda 2015–2021

Abstract

The article analyzes youth participation in protests in the province from 2015 to 2021. The aim of the research is to determine the level of protest potential of the provincial youth in modern Russia. The study takes a historical and comparative methods. In the course of research, the author comes to the conclusion that in the modern context the involvement of young people in the protest discourse takes place through network technologies, which are actively used by interested opposition actors. On the one hand, young people in provincial areas, where critical thinking is less developed, may be vulnerable to such signals. On the other hand, protest discourse in local spaces rarely develops further because of the pervasive political culture
