Abstract

In this paper, an obstacle avoidance system for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) using ultrasonic sensors is proposed. For detecting obstacles, the proposed algorithm uses a predefined map with a list of obstacles. The best way to avoid these obstacles is to compare them with the data collected from the sensors. Thus, the system learns the best way to avoid them and update the map. All happens upon monitoring the UAV from an android application. Our research has proved that this method is very feasible and provides a cheap and effective form of navigation.
