Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine determinant factors in academic achievement of form five student in the state of Kelantan. Academic achievement was calculated based on the average grade score of SPM result. Cluster sampling was done to select twenty-eight schools with a total of 5725 form five students. Multiple regression analysis was used to explain the relationship between of academic performance, the category of schools, and the students' profiles. The demographic profile of students and school characteristics concerning the overall percentage of students from each school were analyzed, in the form of linear terms and interaction terms. Through multiple regression, gender, location, ethnic variables, and school characteristics such as percentages of poverty, male students and Malays in the schools was found to be statistically significant, at 5% level of significance, whereas Malay and Chinese factors were not significant in the form of linear term nor as well as in interaction term.
