Abstract

A prototype device for improved assessment of clinical diabetic neuropathy was designed, developed, and pilot tested by students of the Design of Medical Devices II course, which is part of the biomedical engineering program of the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates. Specifically, students identified a specific clinical problem faced by healthcare staff in the screening of diabetes mellitus complications and researched possible solutions in consideration of patient care, ease of use, and assessment effectiveness.
