Abstract

Increase in the computing power of mobile platform devices and the advancement in processor technology has led to the coexistence of thermal devices with multiple technologies to be part of the same platform. Though Advanced Configuration and Platform Interface (ACPI) provides thermal and power states information to perform power management, it isn’t sufficient to manage the interoperability of all the system components. As part of this paper, we will discuss the firmware-based approach of DPTF which resolves this issue. Also, we will discuss the extended power management methodology to prevent the voltage violation that might occur due to high power consumption by the turbo processor.
