The Irish Revolution

Abstract

Fifty yea r s ago, on Eas t e r Monday, Apri l 25, 1916, began the glorious I r i sh Revolution, a revolution that was to end by sweeping away a monstrous record of brutality and oppression that had been foisted f o r centu r i e s upon the long-suffering I r i sh people. In defeating the mighty a r m i e s of the grea tes t and most ruthless empi re on the face of the earth, the I r i sh were the f i r s t people to have the courage and the stamina to follow through on the promise of the American Revolution against the s a m e imperial oppressors: a Revolution that had been the f i r s t successful war of national liberation in modern history. The I r i sh Revolution was the second such successful war. F o r other w a r s of national liberation prompted by the American Revolution (e. g. Belgium, the Netherlands. Geneva, and la te r the revolutions of 1848) had been beaten back by the forces of a rmed international counter-revolution.
