Abstract

This letter presents a meander-slot defected ground structure (DGS) for a two-element multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation. The two-monopole MIMO antenna operates at 1.8 GHz. The reduction of mutual couplings between the monopoles is achieved by suppressing the surface waves on the ground plane using the meander-slot DGS. The designed DGS has a very compact size of 10mm ×14 mm (0.06λ×0.08λ) suitable for practical design of MIMO antenna.
