Abstract

In this paper we present a low-scattering metasurface using combination of diffuse elements and absorptive elements. As is well known that diffusion and absorption are two common ways to achieve RCS reduction. However, the energy conversion caused by absorbing and the relatively strong side lobe caused by diffuse scattering will increase the probability of being detected. By combining these two methods, a diffuse scattering metasurface with absorbing elements is proposed to achieve further RCS reduction. An optimization procedure is developed based on the simulated annealing algorithm to get an optimal performance.
