Abstract

By-products of plant biomass conversion are a multicomponent resinous liquid, which includes unsaturated and oxygen-containing substances. It was tested as corrosion inhibitor of low-carbon steel in hydrochloric and sulfuric acids at temperatures of 25-90° C. The resin shows noticeable protective effects at low concentrations in sulfuric acid solutions and when elevated in hydrochloric acid. The increase in temperature leads to a decrease in the protective effect of the additive. The influence of the additive on the partial reactions of the corrosion process is determined. The mechanism of inhibitor action is established.
