Abstract

This paper briefly introduces the notion of concept modeling, explore some existing techniques, and discuss their advantages and drawbacks. In an effort to find a general concept model, focus of our research was primarily on documents describing patents. Proposed is model for patents which allows efficient detection of individual concepts and relations among them, both within and across patent boundaries. This approach is based on a hybrid solution - employing existing conceptual indexing technique for extraction of individual concepts, and RDF/OWL descriptions for patent-specific data.
